The marvelous Saif Ul Malook Lake in Naran Kaghan Valley
Naran is a medium-sized town located in the upper Kaghan valley, part of the Khyber Pakhtun khwa province of Pakistan. It is one of the most beautiful parts of northern Pakistan, which is 2,500 metres above sea level. Its beauty attracts a large number of people towards itself, making it a popular resort for tourists and trekkers. The climate in Naran is very cold. The ice on the mountain tops never melts, even in the months of June and July there are glaciers, and the mountains are covered with snow.
The path to the Naran valley runs along the Kunhar River, which begins from the Kaghan Glaciers and flows deep down into the Mansehra River. The local languages of Naran Valley are Hindko and Gojri, but every person can speak and understand Urdu. The dress is a shalwar cameez with long bottom shalwars. The majority of the people are tall.
The inhabitants of the Naran Valley are basically Gujars, and they are very generous and good-natured. They welcome tourists very well and treat them like their own friends. The main source of income is tourists and their occupations include workers, resthouse managers, restaurant, jeep drivers, shop keepers, some of them also grow crops and some of them are shepherds. But their entire fortunes have just been collected in the summer season, as in the winters the entire area is covered with snow, and they have to move down to Mansehra or some other hotter place. That's why the prices over there are a little higher. For example, the price of a Rs. 100 mobile card is about Rs. 107.
Naran also has a small bazaar like the Murree shopping street. The basic necessities of life are readily available.
Saifulmalook is located 8 kilometres north of Naran. It takes 1 hour to get to the Saif Malook from Naran. A lot of 4×4 jeeps can be found in the outskirts of town. These jeeps take tourists from Naran Valley to Saiful Malook. As the road up there is very rough and there are glaciers all the way up, so only those jeeps and local drivers can take you up there. People hire those jeeps and visit Saiful Malook from Naran with their families. Some people prefer to go trekking rather than riding a jeep, especially the youngsters who go up to Saiful Malook. Restaurants and shops are also located in Saiful Malook. People enjoy riding on horseback.
